No. 5: Wide Receiver Kendrick Bourne

The 49ers have largely overhauled their wide receiver position, including bringing in free agents Pierre Garcon, Marquise Goodwin and Aldrick Robinson.

These three, plus slot receivers Jeremy Kerley and Trent Taylor, are in excellent shape to be on the 53-man roster this upcoming year.

One should expect San Francisco to keep at least five wideouts, and a sixth is possible if one or two of them can double on special teams.

Two players to watch here are UDFA receivers Victor Bolden and Kendrick Bourne.

Bourne, a 6-foot-1 and 203-pound wideout from Eastern Washington, boasts the size aspect many of the 49ers’ other receivers don’t have.

Bourne’s 4.68 40-yard time at the NFL Scouting Combine doesn’t help his speed attribute much.

Yet Niners Wire’s Jerod Brown pointed out how Bourne and fellow wideout Victor Bolden were getting work with the first-team unit during training camp:

San Francisco may end up clearing out the back end of this crucial position, including returning veterans like DeAndre Smelter and Aaron Burbridge.

Such pending moves could make a player like Bolden a strong candidate.

Speaking of Bolden…
