As NFL teams get set for training camp, slimming down the 90-man roster to 53 spots will create strong competition this summer. For the San Francisco 49ers, there will be plenty of battles to fill those spots. Niner Noise looks at five players who will rise the furthest during training camp.

When you are a 2-14 team, there are few positions on your roster that can be considered secure heading into training camp.

For San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch, the process of rebuilding has already begun as they have flipped over more than half the roster from last season.

And while the team will look to veterans NaVorro Bowman, Joe Staley and second-year player DeForest Buckner to anchor this young squad, the vast majority of positions will be up for grabs once camp begins come July 27.

Lynch has done a terrific job so far in adding talent to one of the least-talented rosters in the NFL. And brick by brick, the team will look to rebuild the winning tradition synonymous with this once-proud franchise.

Let’s look at five players Lynch has brought in who will rise to the occasion and open some eyes in 49ers training camp.
