If I had to pick one player to build a brand new team around, I’d easily select Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.

Maybe the Raiders realized this too, signing him to a lucrative contract extension this offseason, as detailed in the video below:

One can only think what the now-good Raiders’ playoffs would have looked like had Carr not broken his leg late in the regular season.

Could Oakland have challenged the Patriots for a trip to the Super Bowl? We’ll never know.

At any rate, Carr is one of the best players in the NFL right now, and he’s certainly deserving of the massive deal he received.

And if the Raiders make it deep into the playoffs, Carr will be one to thank.
