Flex Player: Wide Receiver Dave Parks

Season: 1965

OK, we’re going a little deeper into 49ers history now.

Most fantasy leagues allow for a flex player — an offensive standout to round out a roster without taking away from two running backs or two wide receivers.

In this scenario, the ideal Niners flex player would be wide receiver Dave Parks and his 1965 campaign.

Parks posted an amazing 80 receptions for 1,344 yards and 12 touchdowns — the NFL leader in each category. Parks’ 1,344 receiving yards topped the second guy on the list, Philadelphia Eagles’ Pete Retzlaff, by 154 yards.

In total, Parks would have put up an astounding 206.4 fantasy points over the course of the year, which would have averaged 14.7 points per game in a 14-game format.

There were some running backs and tight ends worth considering here, but Parks’ ability to lead the NFL in each category here puts him ahead of the flex pack.
