Kicker: Ray Wersching

Season: 1984

If fantasy football was more prevalent in the 1980s, long before the internet was a thing, you probably would have wanted to round out your roster with kicker Ray Wersching.

Wersching may arguably be San Francisco’s best all-time kicker, and is the franchise leader in both field goals made (190) and extra-point attempts made (409).

Playing with the 49ers from 1977 through 1987, Wersching managed to earn two Super Bowl rings during his Niners tenure over an 11-year career with the team.

But 1984 was his best.

That season, Wersching converted only 25 of 35 field-goal attempts, 71.4 percent, but also made an astounding 56 extra points (remember, San Francisco’s offense was that good).

Considering the fantasy point value, Wersching would have earned something like 130 points, even factoring in minus-10 points for the 10 misses he had on the season.

So if you could pick any Niners kicker and his best season, Wersching’s 1984 campaign would probably be it.
