No. 2: Week 16 versus Jacksonville Jaguars

I’ll probably continue ripping the Jacksonville Jaguars as long as quarterback Blake Bortles is under center.

Bortles isn’t a starting-caliber QB, and the Jags offense will struggle as long as he’s holding down the starting reins.

Even so, the Jaguars wisely made a move to address their offensive problems this offseason, selecting standing LSU running back, Leonard Fournette, at No. 4 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Fournette changes the look of this offense. Yet 49ers fans are surely awaiting the reunion between Fournette and fellow first-round draftee, Niners linebacker Reuben Foster:

Enough of the fun clips though. What makes this a tough contest for the 49ers is how much Jacksonville has invested in its defense, especially via free agency, the past two years.

Scoring-wise, the numbers don’t suggest it. But the Jaguars did rank No. 6 in the NFL in fewest yards allowed (5,147).

So this might be a game where the 49ers let the Jacksonville offense make the majority of mistakes.
