Houston Texans

How long until Deshaun Watson starts at quarterback?

Like the Broncos, the Houston Texans’ time to compete for a Super Bowl is now. They have an elite-level defense, a solid crop of wide receivers and a good core of role players on both sides of the ball.

Houston just lacks a quarterback capable of starting right away.

The Texans wisely jettisoned quarterback Brock Osweiler this offseason after his failed experiment. And taking former Clemson QB Deshaun Watson in Round 1 of the NFL Draft was an indication the Texans are making this much-needed move right now.

The only question is how long before Watson starts.

As of now, veteran Tom Savage is poised to be the starter in Week 1. He owns a 74.9 passer rating over five games in which he’s taken snaps, and Savage has yet to toss an NFL touchdown.

Savage isn’t the long-term answer — we know this — but Texans fans will start to get impatient rather quickly if the veteran isn’t producing.

Fans will be calling Watson’s name early in 2017.
