No. 6: Lowell Wagner

49ers Tenure: 1949 – 1955

Pro Bowl Selections: 0

Originally a member of the New York Yankees football team (yes, you read that) from 1946 to 1948, Lowell Wagner made his way over to San Francisco the season right before they entered the NFL. Soon after that is when he made his impact.

Wagner was teamed with Berry, and the two together caused havoc. On eight different occasions over the few seasons spent together, the pair held opposing quarterbacks to under 100 yards passing. He was named second-team All-Pro in 1952, the same season he recorded his second highest interception total (six).

Remarkably, even though Wagner he only played in four full seasons for the 49ers, he was able to collect enough interceptions to situate himself near the top of the all-time leaderboards.

With 31 interceptions, Wagner is tied for fifth (Merton Hanks).
