No. 2: Eric Wright

49ers Tenure: 1981 – 1990

Pro Bowl Selections: 2

Juxtapositioned next to him on this list, Eric Wright is seemingly always in the shadow of Ronnie Lott. Drafted in the same season, their tenures with the team even lasted the same length. It must be not forgotten the ability of Wright. In fact, the tandem of Wright and Lott was named the No. 3 cornerback tandem of all-time by NFL Network:

“Because Ronnie was so highly talented, I don’t think people went after him,” said former 49ers safety Dwight Hicks. “Eric got all the attention. But after midway through the season, you couldn’t throw it at Eric anymore.”

He was a key member of the secondary of the 49ers first two Super Bowl wins and ultimately was apart of four championships. Wright earned individual accolades as well, being selected to the Pro Bowl in 1984 and 1985, and being named first-team All-Pro in 1985.

From his lightning speed to impressive press coverage, Wright was truly a special player.
