Winner: Safety Lorenzo Jerome

Undrafted free-agent safety Lorenzo Jerome has been one of the few standouts within San Francisco’s secondary so far.

He already recorded an impressive interception during 49ers minicamp, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. And Jerome backed that up with yet another off quarterback C.J. Beathard.

Barrows described the play by writing, “Jerome came away with another Tuesday on a tipped pass from quarterback C.J. Beathard that was intended for receiver Victor Bolden.”

The 49ers’ starting safeties are likely set, with Eric Reid assuming the strong safety spot and Jimmie Ward at free safety. But the depth chart behind these two remains open. With Jaquiski Tartt a favorite to back up Reid, Jerome is likely competing with fellow defensive backs Adrian Colbert, Malik Golden, Chanceller James and Vinnie Sunseri.

Efforts like the one Jerome displayed this first week will go a long way in pushing him up the depth chart.
