Edge

Though the 49ers bolstered their pass rush with Thomas and added Pita Taumoepenu late in the draft, San Francisco still lacks talent at edge rusher.

By not addressing the position until the sixth round, the Niners are gambling that the likes of Aaron Lynch and Eli Harold can make an impact that belies their previous production.

Lynch’s suspension and fluctuating weight prevented him from making any progress last season, while the first of three career sacks for Harold did not come until Week 9 of last season.

The Niners will have to hope that Thomas, DeForest Buckner, Arik Armstead and Ronald Blair create enough chaos on their own this season, but next offseason cannot be one where edge rusher goes almost completely ignored.
