San Francisco 49ers: A Way-Too-Early Look at Position Needs for 2018
By Peter Panacy
The San Francisco 49ers addressed a number of key issues during the 2017 NFL Draft and earlier in free agency. But the current roster is far from complete. Niner Noise takes a way-too-early look at what positions might be of need during the 2018 offseason.
San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch brought in a haul of veteran and prospective talent via free agency and the 2017 NFL Draft, respectively.
All these moves should help a 2-14 Niners squad get back to some form of respectability this season.
But the work is far from complete.
San Francisco 49ers
Not long ago, Niner Noise took a look at five key needs Lynch and the 49ers did not address via the draft. For various reasons, San Francisco is holding off on making moves here until a later date.
When that is remains anyone’s guess. Perhaps on-roster players step up and into the fray. Or maybe there are other moves yet to be made to solidify the roster.
Let’s look forward to 2018, however, and try to predict what the five most-pressing positional needs the Niners will have a little less than a year from now. We’ll take a brief look at possible free-agent options and maybe even a few in the NFL Draft.
Although that information — like anything almost a year away — will be affected by a slew of to-be-determined circumstances.
We’ll kick things off with the pass rush.
