Week 10 versus New York Giants

The New York Giants could have done a bit more to address their offensive line in the NFL Draft, but adding tight end Evan Engram only makes quarterback Eli Manning’s arsenal of passing weapons all the more potent.

San Francisco simply doesn’t have the answers to match up with Engram or No. 1 wideout Odell Beckham Jr., so the best thing to hope for might be Beckham has yet another one of his “off” days.

Even so, don’t expect the 49ers to come anywhere close to shutting down Manning and Co.

New York’s defense, especially after adding defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson, is good enough to ensure San Francisco struggles to put points on the board. The Giants will give up some yards, but that won’t be good enough for the Niners. They’ll be playing from behind most of the game.

Why New York Wins

Manning has to have just an OK game to be effective enough here. Running back Paul Perkins still has to prove himself on the ground, but the Giants passing game will be the main factor here. New York simply has too many weapons through the air.

The Giants third-best run defense from a year ago is able to shut down anything the 49ers try to do on the ground.

And San Francisco can’t match the aerial weaponry here.

Why San Francisco Wins

This might have to be a game in which quarterback Brian Hoyer shines brighter than any other point in the season. With the running game likely stalled, Hoyer will have to be more than just a game manager under center.

New York may have some issues covering tight ends this season, so maybe rookie TE George Kittle also contributes nicely. Look for that.

And on defense, well, Manning did throw 16 interceptions last year. A couple of those would be nice.
