Key NFL Draft Additions: EDGE Derek Barnett, CB Sidney Jones, CB Rasul Douglas
The hometown Philadelphia Eagles brought in some receiving weapons for quarterback Carson Wentz this offseason, notably wideouts Torrey Smith an Alshon Jeffery, and even added some more later in the draft.
But the biggest need here was at cornerback. The Eagles didn’t have any options prior to the draft.
Grabbing Washington corner Sidney Jones comes with a major risk, as he recovers from the Achilles injury suffered during his pro day. He’ll likely be out for most, if not all, of his rookie season. But fellow corner Rasul Douglas should start right away and contribute nicely.
What sets apart the Eagles draft class was the first-round addition of Tennessee EDGE Derek Barnett.
Some may say Barnett is the best pass-rusher in this year’s class, perhaps even better than Myles Garrett.
If so, Philadelphia got an absolute steal.
