Simulating the 49ers Selections in the 2017 NFL Draft
Round 5 Pick 2 (No. 146 Overall) – S Xavier Woods (Louisiana Tech)
Production and versatility are two tough things to argue with, and Xavier Woods has both.
Woods played as a deep safety, in the box and in the slot at Louisiana Tech and had 14 interceptions and five forced fumbles in his last three seasons.
Those type of numbers may be tough for John Lynch to ignore and Woods’ awareness to undercut routes and drive to the ball will also appeal.
He is a little undersized for the position and there may be concern about lining him up against quicker slot receivers given how he struggled against Taywan Taylor in the Conference USA title game, but Woods is a fine developmental prospect to grab at this stage in the draft.
