Brandon Doman

2002 NFL Draft, Round 5, No. 163 Overall

The 49ers were still seeking an adequate backup for Jeff Garcia in 2002, especially considering the growing problems the team was experiencing with poor salary cap management.

In Round 5 that year, the Niners took former BYU QB Brandon Doman, who compiled an impressive 3,542 passing yards with 33 touchdowns against eight interceptions his senior year.

But Doman never made San Francisco’s roster out of training camp and didn’t stick around in the NFL either.

Even if that experiment didn’t work out for the Niners, at least Doman was able to go on to be BYU’s quarterbacks coach and eventual offensive coordinator for a number of seasons.
