The San Francisco 49ers haven’t had the best of luck drafting quarterbacks this century. With the 2017 NFL Draft around the corner, and quarterback a pressing need, Niner Noise looks back at each San Francisco QB draftee since 2000.

Quarterbacks and the San Francisco 49ers go hand in hand.

Names like Y.A. Tittle, Joe Montana, Steve Young and Jeff Garcia come to mind.

But since Garcia, the Niners haven’t had the best of luck when it comes to selecting quarterbacks via the NFL Draft.

Sure, there have been guys like Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick in the mix — both of whom had brief periods of success. Yet both players’ respective careers in San Francisco were overshadowed by controversy and inconsistent play.

Our good friend Al Sacco, from 49ers Web Zone, tweeted out some troubling stats:

Needless to say, the Niners haven’t had the best results drafting quarterbacks dating back to 2000.

So let’s go over the list of QBs taken in the NFL Draft since that year.

And maybe we can hope the precedent changes this season.
