49ers Advantage

San Francisco has a lot to consider on day one of this year’s NFL Draft, cornerback seems to be one of the most glaring. Not many people would have argued if the 49ers had taken Sidney Jones, had the injury had never happened.

The Niners have multitudes of draft capital, needs across the lineup, the ability to move around and, above all, plenty of time to develop players.

The front office could find a way to give Jones the time and coaching to be what he was widely considered to be pre-injury with a day-two selection.

Addressing the heavy need at corner, allowing the first round to go towards another area of need and getting multiple blue chip prospects could all be accomplished with this strategy.

Jimmie Ward could move to safety, if that is indeed his best position, which allows the first-round pick to address anything outside the secondary.

The 49ers are better situated to do this than most teams and could prove to have a fantastic three-year outlook. The one thing the 49ers have more of than anyone else is time. This is exactly what Jones needs and could prove to be the solitary factor that makes him a great player for the Niners in the future.
