10 Reasons to be Excited, Worried about the San Francisco 49ers in 2017

Excitement: Quarterback Brian Hoyer Isn’t That Bad
Before anyone accuses me of believing likely starter Brian Hoyer is the team’s next franchise quarterback, let me stress Hoyer is little more than a bridge option until the 49ers can find someone else.
But things could be worse.
True, Hoyer has been little more than a journeyman backup his entire career. And yet he has his supporters.
Like NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who stated such on KNBR 680 not long ago:
"Look Brian Hoyer is not Tom Brady, but he is a very good quarterback. I mean when he has played, he’s been really good. I think the problem with Brian Hoyer is, and I hate this, but he was an undrafted free agent. And you just cannot get over that in this ridiculous world. I think if he was a second-round pick, nobody would be all about Brian Hoyer. But he had the Browns at 7-4 until Josh Gordon came back in the mix, poisoned the well, and they ended up going back with Johnny Manziel. He played really well for a bad Bears team last year before breaking his arm, which is not his fault. Brian Hoyer has played some really good football. I think he’s going to be fine."
Even a Bleacher Report NFL1000 scouting report by Doug Farrar sang Hoyer’s praises.
Hoyer won’t have no-name receivers either. Pierre Garcon is good. Marquise Goodwin has speed. And who knows which players entice the 49ers in the NFL Draft.
Don’t worry too much, Niners fans. Hoyer may wind up turning some heads this season.
