No. 5: LB Shayne Skov

Although the 49ers’ linebacking corps have been buried by injuries in past season, LB Shayne Skov shouldn’t make the 53-man roster. The 49ers lost linebackers Nick Bellore, Michael Wilhoite and likely will lose Gerald Hodges as well.

With all that said, Skov is at best a special teams contributor and ideally someone that belongs on the practice squad.

In two seasons with the 49ers, he’s only had 12 tackles and been primarily a backup player. With the 49ers’ additions of Malcolm Smith, Brock Coyle and Dekoda Watson, it likely signals that the 49ers will part ways with Skov this season.

The 49ers will likely start linebackers NaVorro Bowman, Malcolm Smith and Ray-Ray Armstrong.

With Coyle, Watson and a rookie as additional depth, it leaves no room for Skov.
