Round 4, No. 142: WR Trent Taylor

Top 300 ranking: 127

With Kyle Shanahan at the helm, NFL offenses tend to perform quite well. Just look at his most recent run with the Atlanta Falcons. Shanahan seems to get the most out of his running backs and wide receivers.

Shanahan’s going to want playmakers, plain and simple. Louisiana Tech Trent Taylor is that. The wideout’s production in college reflects that:

  • 327 receptions
  • 4,179 yards receiving
  • 32 receiving TD’s

Known as a clean, crisp route-runner, Taylor’s catching ability is special too. He had just the third lowest drop rate among college wide receivers, as reported at Bleacher Report.

And factoring in the dynamic that Lynch is adding a competitiveness/toughness grade to the scouting, Taylor is a perfect fit (via Kyle Crabbs of NDT Scouting):

Taylor’s best fit is in the slot. Jeremy Kerley is the 49ers first option there, but Taylor could certainly contend for the starting position (while also learning under the tutelage of Kerley).
