Tight End

Vance McDonald, Logan Paulsen, Garrett Celek

Technically we’re not going with a depth chart on each slide, but the tight end position is fairly easy to break down after the 49ers added former Washington Redskins and Chicago Bears TE Logan Paulsen via free agency.

Paulsen, who worked under Kyle Shanahan in Washington, is one of the better blocking tight ends in the NFL. His 75.2 pass-blocking grade last year, per Pro Football Focus, ranked seventh in the NFL.

While we should expect most of the pass catching to go to No. 1 tight end Vance McDonald, we can’t overlook the fact Paulsen was involved in the receiving game during his tenure under Shanahan with the Redskins:

So maybe the 49ers wind up with two pass-catching threats in both McDonald and Paulsen.

Fellow TE Garrett Celek is a No. 3 option, and we shouldn’t expect Blake Bell to make the 53-man roster.
