No. 3: Trade With The Washington Redskins

Pick: 17

Value: 950

In order for this trade to occur, the Washington Redskins would have to give up a wealth of picks:

  • 49ers trade second overall pick (2,600) to the Redskins for their 17th overall pick (950), second rounder — 49th pick (410), third rounder — 81st pick (185), fourth rounder — 110th pick (74), 2018 first rounder (~3,000-590) and 2019 second rounder (~580-270).
  • The trade value sits at 1,619 before the future picks come in. The total value can reach as high as 4,619 and as low as 2,479.

Why does Washington seemingly mortgage its future by dealing away a mass of draft picks?

Because this team is building to win now. Finishing 8-7-1 last season, the team is finally in playoff talk again and with Kirk Cousins at quarterback, the Redskins are ready to make moves. Their offense has shown to be robust at times while the defense raises some questions. Their pass rush is in need of help, and there a few generating a lot of hype in this year’s draft class.

Texas A&M’s Myles Garrett is one of them; Alabama’s Jonathan Allen is another. Allen is the man they shoot for, with the hopes of improving their defense to match the level of their offense.

At the No. 17 pick, the 49ers look to enhance their pass rush in Missouri defensive end Charles Harris. The versatility Harris brings should interest the 49ers, who can “play as a gap-stuffing edge and a dynamic pass-rusher,” according to Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller. The 49ers serve a need while gaining a profusion of picks in future drafts.
