49ers vs. Rams: The Good, Bad and Ugly from San Francisco in Week 16
By Peter Panacy
The San Francisco 49ers managed to get their second win of the season over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 16. Niner Noise breaks down the good, bad and ugly from the red and gold in this NFC West bout.
If only the San Francisco 49ers had to face the Los Angeles Rams each and every week of the regular season.
The Niners’ second win of the 2016 season came against the Rams, which now ensures head coach Chip Kelly’s 2016 squad won’t finish as the worst team — in terms of wins and losses — in franchise history.
San Francisco’s other win this year also came against Los Angeles way back in Week 1 on Monday Night Football.
The 49ers’ second-half woes looked as if they’d continue in Week 16. But quarterback Colin Kaepernick performed enough heroics to help get the Niners 15 crucial points in the fourth quarter, plus a successful two-point conversion, to edge the Rams in a 22-21 “thriller.”
Yes, the game was pretty boring in the third quarter. Heck, it was pretty lackluster throughout.
But the win also came with some notable setbacks. Running back Carlos Hyde suffered a season-ending injury. And San Francisco’s win cost the team a likely shot at the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Nevertheless, let’s look at what was good, bad and ugly from the Niners’ effort.
