With the first five games complete, and the San Francisco 49ers sitting in last place in the NFC West at 1-4, there are plenty of places to point the blame. We’ll take a look at five players who were being counted on to produce in 2016 but have been especially disappointing so far this season.

The 2016 season started off so promising for the San Francisco 49ers, with a dominant 28-0 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.

But the last four weeks have taken an eerily similar path to the disastrous 2015 season that saw the Niners finish with a 5-11 record.

With Chip Kelly taking over as head coach, the thought was he could reinvigorate the inept offense and get the most of Blaine Gabbert or Colin Kaepernick operating his fast-paced offense.

But the offense has struggled under Gabbert, and there are no guarantees Kaepernick will be an upgrade.

The defense has regressed and bares little semblance to the one that, just a few short seasons ago, was top five in the league.

With an infusion of youth these past two drafts, the hope was that this season the team would start to see some progression from some of their young players.

And while you can probably go up and down the roster pointing out disappointing players, we have chosen these five players who haven’t lived up to the preseason expectations many forecasted for them.
