It’s going to be a long year for San Francisco

In the biggest takeaway from Friday night’s matchup is the fact that the 49ers are just not a good football team right now.

They are young and the roster is filled with a lot of unknowns at this point. With the 49ers facing the toughest schedule in the NFL in 2016, it’s going to be a long year for head coach Chip Kelly.

The offense as a whole seems to be out of sync, and they continue to strengthen the narrative that the 49ers are near the bottom of the league.

The 49ers defense has looked strong at times and is, far and away, the best unit on the team. But they also have their unanswered questions.

We all knew that 2016 was going to be the start of a major rebuild, but there always seemed to be a sliver of hope Kelly would turn the team around in his first year like he did with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Three games into the preseason and that hope is all but gone.

Kelly is the right man for the job. But he has his work cut out for him. This rebuild will take longer than we all would like.

If the 49ers continue to play the way they have this preseason, look for the 49ers to have a top-10 selection in the 2017 NFL Draft.
