49ers vs. Broncos: 5 San Francisco Players to Watch in Denver
By Peter Panacy
Right Tackle Guard Anthony Davis
So the 49ers do not have a camp competition at right tackle, apparently.
This was supposed to be the bout between no-longer-retired right tackle Anthony Davis and up-and-coming second-year tackle Trent Brown. Both have performed well in camp, and Brown might actually have been the better of the two versus Houston (Davis allowed the lone 49ers sack).
Instead, the Niners don’t seem to have a problem moving Davis to right guard and allowing Brown to continue his upward trend, per Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News.
If both Davis and Brown help compile the best five linemen to play along San Francisco’s offensive line, the move makes sense.
Keep an eye on how well Davis, if he starts at guard, adjusts to the slight position switch and how his rapport with Brown develops. Considering the Broncos’ strong pass rush — 52 sacks last season — Davis’ efforts here could go a long way in determining how effective the 49ers’ pass blocking will be in 2016.
