Left Inside Linebacker

V1.0 Assessment:

Starter: Gerald Hodges

Backup: Michael Wilhoite

V2.0 Assessment:

No changes.

Again, linebacker Gerald Hodges wins out the competition to start alongside NaVorro Bowman. And Wilhoite goes back to serving as the team’s primary backup in case of injury and on substitutions.

But as described previously, one area to watch will be how the 49ers use safety Jaquiski Tartt in sub packages.

Tartt may end up moving up towards the box, which might push Wilhoite away from any sort of coverage duties in obvious passing situations. Wilhoite (minus-11.2, per PFF) was pretty abysmal in pass coverage last year.

Look for Tartt to be a factor.
