Right Inside Linebacker

V1.0 Assessment:

Starter: NaVorro Bowman

Backup: Michael Wilhoite

V2.0 Assessment:

No changes.

There isn’t any need to change linebacker NaVorro Bowman’s starting bid on the season. And we can’t swap out fellow linebacker Michael Wilhoite for Ray-Ray Armstrong.

Armstrong is battling with Wilhoite, as well as Gerald Hodges, for the right to start alongside Bowman this season. In all likelihood, Hodges wins this camp battle — we’ll get to that shortly — so the primary backup role remains up for grabs.

Wilhoite posted 62 tackles last year (second on the team) but also graded out with a minus-16.5 overall mark, per Pro Football Focus (subscription required).

But what gives Wilhoite the edge over Armstrong is the former has shadowed and played alongside Bowman already.

Armstrong hasn’t exactly wowed in his pro career.
