Defensive End DeForest Buckner

Rookie defensive end DeForest Buckner is one of the prime beneficiaries of injuries to defensive linemen Ian Williams and Glenn Dorsey.

“[Buckner] joined the starting lineup for the first time this offseason and played both left and right defensive end in the 49ers’ base defense,” Grant Cohn of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat wrote. “He seems like a lock to start until Glenn Dorsey returns.”

Buckner hasn’t been making too many eye-popping plays, at least according to the variety of on-field media reports, but this doesn’t take anything away from his potential.

And the fact San Francisco is already slating him in with first-team units is only a good sign of things to come.

We won’t get overly excited about Buckner just yet and state his stock is rising. It’s already high to begin with, and first-round picks are typically asked to step in and contribute right out of the gate.

So Buckner stays even right now, but that’s not a bad thing at all.
