We are down to the final two days before our San Francisco 49ers open training camp. There has been a good bit of intrigue leading up to this camp. There is a new head coach in Chip Kelly. There are new coordinators on both sides of the ball. There is last year’s starting quarterback returning from injury. The leading sack-man from last season is starting this season suspended. Niner Noise takes an in-depth preview into training camp for the 49ers.

The San Francisco 49ers have a lot of work to do in this training camp. Last season was extremely disappointing with a 5-11 record. The 49ers offense was simply abysmal, and the defense was only marginally better. The coaching staff was out-coached in just about every game.

It wasn’t 49ers football which we were accustomed to seeing.

However, 2016 is a new season and there are new opportunities. We saw a peek into what 2016 will bring with the OTAs and minicamp. The offense will be run at warp speed — Kelly wants his offense to get into position and the ball snapped within 20 seconds.

How will the defense survive the expected physical test? Can they be on the field for longer and maintain a good standard? Can they get to the quarterback this season after only posting 28 sacks in 2015?

There are key players returning from injury. QB Colin Kaepernick was fully cleared to participate in camp. Safety Antoine Bethea is returning from a season-ending injury as is defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey. Ian Williams had more offseason ankle surgery.

Veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin was let go, and he just just signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Lions. This leaves the receiver group very young, with several unproven rookies and a couple of under-achieving veterans.

The 49ers have an interesting preseason schedule, which includes games against quarterback Brock Osweiler and the Houston Texans, the Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos and perennial rivals, the Green Bay Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

There will be position battles at QB, wide receiver, cornerback and who will rush the passer. There are many players who are on the roster bubble. What other news and rumors are out there right now? Who will be starting the games after camp?

So without further ado, let’s get started!
