Who will be the starting quarterback?

What proves to be the most intriguing matchup of training camp is the battle at the quarterback position.

49ers quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert are both coming off a season where they both played some pretty bad football. Kaepernick started off the season and was benched midway through for Gabbert.

Although they both played poorly, they both have the potential to flourish in a Chip Kelly-led offense. Both quarterbacks have the skill set that Kelly is looking for.

Kaepernick has the mobility that is matched by very few in the NFL today, has great arm strength and can throw well in space.

Gabbert has better movement in the pocket and tends to be the more accurate passer between the two, which is something a Kelly led offense hinges on. Gabbert is also a good runner with the football.

The 49ers coaching staff must give both quarterbacks the opportunity to show they are the best option for the team to win and then stick with whatever decision they make.

Preseason has never been more important for these two quarterbacks.
