Will Anthony Davis start at right tackle?

No.

Let’s just get that out of the way right now, tackle Anthony Davis will not start for the San Francisco 49ers in 2016.

In case you missed it, Davis had retired from the 49ers and sat out all of the 2015 season. He has now, just days away from training camp, filed for reinstatement in the NFL and to the 49ers.

Davis has been reported to have dropped quite a bit of weight in his time off and, after missing all of the offseason activities, he will enter training camp to compete at the right tackle position.

According to Davis’ agent Drew Rosenhaus, the relationship between Davis and the 49ers has been worked out.

“I’m confident that Anthony is ready to go to work with the 49ers and resume his career with them,” agent Drew Rosenhaus said on Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports Radio. “And I believe the 49ers will welcome him back. It’s hard for me to speak for them, but the impression I have is that from all my discussions with them, they’d be excited to get Anthony back. And Anthony would be happy to work with them again.

“But I do think since some of his comments, I do believe he has patched things up with the organization. He has been in contact with the organization and I also believe with the coaching staff. And they’ve rebuilt that relationship. Whatever damage took place, in my estimation, it has been repaired.”

The 49ers new coaching staff must monitor Davis closely. Training camp will be an important time for Davis to prove to his new coaches that he really wants to be there.
