No. 1: The Quarterback Battle

Niner Noise’s Peter Panacy wrote an article called Predicting 49ers 2016 Depth Chart Before Training Camp that explains the 49ers quarterback competition in further detail.

I’m on record predicting Blaine Gabbert as the 49ers starting quarterback, and did so in San Francisco 49ers: Why Blaine Gabbert Will Win 49ers QB Battle about one month ago.

In Panacy’s piece though, he points out that all signs are in favor of Gabbert, saying:

“So, barring any incredulous turn of events in training camp and the preseason, Kaepernick will likely be holding the clipboard in Week 1.”

It’s not a very well kept secret on either front that the media will be all over this story come July 29 in Santa Clara, but new head coach Chip Kelly actually prefers Gabbert to former starter Colin Kaepernick at quarterback.

More from Niner Noise

The people who know how coach Kelly’s offense works know that Kelly wants precision, timing and a quarterback that can get the ball out on time. That is Gabbert, not Kaepernick.

But alas, we know who the media thinks will start, who Niner Noise thinks will start and who I think will start at quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers in 2016, but who do you think will start?
