2016 may not be a very kind year for the San Francisco 49ers, but that doesn’t mean the season won’t be a useful one.

The 49ers are going through a youth movement right now. Gone are the days when former linebacker Patrick Willis or former defensive end Justin Smith patrolled the defense. Instead, fans are getting glimpses at new faces and identities.

Some of these younger guys, such as rookie defensive end DeForest Buckner, will draw a lot of hype.

But others, not necessarily viewed as top-impact talent, also have a chance to showcase their worth. Let’s focus on these lesser-known players instead.

For many of these fringe players, training camp is more than just a time to get ready for the NFL season. It’s an opportunity to show why each guy belongs on the roster and at the pro level. Strong performances increase chances. Weak ones… well, we know what that likely means.

Instead of discussing players who will already receive a lot of attention in the weeks and months before the regular season, let’s break down five not-so-known players to watch when training camp rolls around in July.
