No. 3, a New Coaching Staff

See new head coach Chip Kelly, in the picture on top of the page? He’s smiling. Will you please guess why? Oh nevermind, I’ll fill you in.

New coaches bring new energy to a team. Similarly, a new team brings energy to a coach. Kelly and general manager Trent Baalke couldn’t be more perfect for each other. They’re both football guys, Baalke from the scouting side (he’s old school and travels to scout) and Kelly from the coaching side. Coaches and scouts constantly work together to build a team. Their philosophies must match, because players scouted must fit the coaches scheme, or it won’t work. Likewise, Baalke and Kelly agree on these things and have similar philosophies.

Then, why is Kelly and the new staff a concern? They sound great.

Simple. Team building takes time. Can the coaching staff instill their values, philosophy and teachings in time to build a team with chemistry. With new staffs may come energy and excitement, but also a lot of molding of players, philosophies and getting the team to gel. Can Kelly and staff mold this team quickly enough for them to have success in 2016?

Let’s be patient with him, because eventually Kelly and Baalke will get it right.
