San Francisco 49ers: 10 worst quarterbacks in franchise history
By Bobby Horne
No. 1: 49ers quarterback Giovanni Carmazzi — 2000-2001
In the 2000 NFL Draft, quarterback Gio Carmazzi was selected by San Francisco in the third round. He was the second quarterback taken in this draft. And after the 49ers missed out on Jim Druckenmiller, many thought Carmazzi could be the successor to Steve Young.

General manager Bill Walsh was known for grooming Hall of Fame quarterbacks, and when he selected Carmazzi, the future looked bright. The 49ers also selected Tim Rattay in the seventh round of the same draft, but when Rattay beat out Carmazzi for the backup role is when things went south.
Carmazzi never appeared in a regular-season game in the NFL and was the highest-picked quarterback ever to achieve that feat. Carmazzi is often labeled as one of the biggest draft busts of all time, not only because he never even threw a pass in a regular-season game, but also because he was one of the few misses of Walsh.
You add that up, and the fact that he was also selected ahead of a less-known Michigan quarterback Tom Brady, Carmazzi is the worst QB in 49ers franchise history.
