Running Back

Halfback: Mike Davis, Shaun Draughn, DuJuan Harris, Carlos Hyde, Kelvin Taylor

Fullback: Bruce Miller

We’ve already covered fullback Bruce Miller and his transition to tight end, so there isn’t any worry there. He’ll be on the roster.

And No. 1 tailback Carlos Hyde will be the primary focal point of San Francisco’s ground game. But whoever backs him up remains to be seen.

The Niners employed a desperation attempt to fill the void left by Hyde during the latter half of 2015. Derailed by injuries to Hyde, Mike Davis and former 49ers back Reggie Bush, the 49ers signed journeymen backs DuJuan Harris and Shaun Draughn to help out.

Each had their share of moments, which resulted in San Francisco re-signing both players during the offseason.

The 49ers lost running back Jarryd Hayne to retirement this offseason, which opens up a roster spot here for camp. But the Niners aren’t likely to keep five backs on their roster, so who goes?

Likely not rookie tailback Kelvin Taylor. His job is probably safe, although he’ll be a strong bubble-watch player, depending on what happens during training camp and the preseason.

As for the rest?

Strong Bubble: Shaun Draughn, DuJuan Harris, Kelvin Taylor

Weak Bubble: Mike Davis
