Wide Receiver/Tight End

Wide Receiver: Dres Anderson, Aaron Burbridge, Devon Cajuste, DiAndre Campbell, Bruce Ellington, Quinton Patton, Eric Rogers, Jerome Simpson, DeAndre Smelter, Torrey Smith, Bryce Treggs, DeAndrew White

Tight End: Busta Anderson, Blake Bell, Garrett Celek, Je’Ron Hamm, Vance McDonald

Wide receiver will be a position of intrigue this season as the 49ers have, essentially, only one proven option at the position — veteran Torrey Smith.

Fellow wideout Bruce Ellington could be a favorite to start in 2016, but the same can’t exactly be said of WR Quinton Patton. Patton’s efforts in OTA sessions weren’t particularly good, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, and the Niners have plenty of young receivers vying for spots on the depth chart.

But a lack of experience could be a major factor, as the following tweets point out:

Receivers like rookie Aaron Burbridge and second-year pro DeAndre Smelter are probably safe for roster spots. But the rest of this young group remains a major question mark.

The tight end position is a little less shaky, but it isn’t as if there are a lot of proven options here either. Yes, fullback Bruce Miller — he’s still listed as such, per the team’s website — will be making a move to tight end. And presumed No. 1 TE Garrett Celek’s job is likely safe too.

But what about the rest? Will former second-round pick Vance McDonald ever break through? And can second-year pro Blake Bell solidify his raw-but-promising skill set?

And what about former Stanford wide receiver Devon Cajuste? He has great hands and may be more of a hybrid-TE rather than a traditional wideout.

Strong Bubble: Busta Anderson, Blake Bell, Devon Cajuste, Vance McDonald, Quinton Patton, Eric Rogers, DeAndrew White

Weak Bubble: Dres Anderson, DiAndre Campbell, Je’Ron Hamm, Jerome Simpson, Bryce Treggs
