San Francisco 49ers: Ranking 10 Best Players on Offense in 2016
No. 8 – Garrett Celek
Going into last season the 49ers were already well aware of Garrett Celek’s skills as a blocker, but what earned him a four-year extension in the offseason was his surprising proficiency as a pass-catcher.
With Vernon Davis having been cast off via trade, Celek was pushed to the fore in the 49ers offense in 2015 and quickly shined, adding to his touchdown in Week 5 against the New York Giants with a two-score day in Week 9 as San Francisco beat the Atlanta Falcons.
An ankle injury ended Celek’s 2015 campaign but that did not stop the Niners from rewarding him with an extension, and he will hope to repay their faith with more solid contributions in 2016.

Celek goes into the year as arguably the top tight end on the roster, although Bruce Miller could soon assume that position as he transitions from fullback.
He is far from a burner, but Celek has shown an ability to make an impact on deep routes and tracks the ball in over his shoulder with sure hands when targeted down the field. Last year Celek also proved reliable on short routes, occasionally making things happen after the catch, and demonstrated some complexities in his route-running in the red zone.
A well-rounded tight end who can aid the running game and the passing attack, Celek can provide a safety net in an offense lacking in weapons and deserves to be a featured part of the gameplan in 2016.
