Stock Down: Running Back Jarryd Hayne

Top-notch fantasy owners probably want nothing to do with former Australian rugby star and current 49ers running back Jarryd Hayne, unless he’s a fun last-pick-of-the-fantasy-draft option.

But Hayne’s cult following still seems to garner attention after what was a stellar 2015 preseason effort.

Remember, Hayne was demoted to the practice squad shortly after the start of the regular season before winding up landing on the 53-man roster late in the year. Still, he didn’t see much action aside from a few carriers and special teams appearances.

There may be the slim, almost comic thought Hayne figures out a way to “break out” under head coach Chip Kelly this season. The problem with this though is San Francisco will be giving the lion’s share of touches to No. 1 tailback Carlos Hyde. And the Niners have other running options like DuJuan Harris, Shaun Draughn, Mike Davis and rookie Kelvin Taylor.

All of these players have a better chance of seeing the ball over Hayne.

So, unless you have some inside foresight everyone else is missing, stay clear of Hayne and save that last pick for someone with some more promise.

Fantasy Projection: Unless your league rewards return yards, don’t consider Hayne for your league. Hayne might not even land the return gig anyway.
