When Roger Goodell approached the podium last Thursday night, for the announcement of the 49ers first Round 1 selection, I just knew he would say “With the seventh pick in the two thousand and sixteen NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select, DeForest Buckner, Defensive End, Oregon.”

This was obvious for two reasons. One, 49ers general manager Trent Baalke loves big players. Two, so does former Oregon Duck’s Head Football Coach, and current 49ers coach, Chip Kelly.

I kept saying to myself “This is a Baalke/Kelly pick.”

And so it happened, and good thing it did, because the 49ers really needed it.

Buckner is not only a big player, who looks the part, but he’s a polished product capable of starting day one with impact. He’s also the type of player that, paired with former Oregon teammate Arik Armstead, will terrorize offenses down in and down out.

For proof of Buckner’s skillset, check out the video below.

It’s an exciting pick, a foundation solidifying pick, and a pick that both Baalke and Kelly have endorsed.

I’d say it’s a win win for the 49ers.
