Running Back DuJuan Harris

When Shaun Draughn suffered his own 2015 injury, the door opened up for fellow journeyman running back DuJuan Harris to take over the primary rushing duties on offense.

Harris’ numbers may not have been as impressive as Draughn’s — he rushed for only 140 yards on 27 attempts — but Harris looked more of a receiving threat out of the backfield compared to his predecessor. Harris hauled in 97 yards on nine receptions in comparison to Draughn’s 175 yards on 25 catches. The difference in yards per catch was 10.7 yards to 7.0 in favor of Harris.

But the same situation applies to Harris as well as Draughn.

The big factor here may be which running back is the better fit for head coach Chip Kelly’s offense. If Kelly envisions either one of these guys as a Darren Sproles-type of tailback, those traits would work best into either ball-carrier’s favor.

There’s a long way to go in determining this, but it’s safe to say the competition at running back will be heated.
