Will Redmond, CB, Mississippi State
In the third round, Baalke selected Will Redmond, an intriguing cornerback prospect from Mississippi State.
As fans now know, Redmond represents the quintessential Baalke selection, as Redmond unfortunately suffered an ACL tear during practice in October of 2015. Dane Burglar of CBS Sports describes his outlook prior to injury:
"Despite limited playing time over his first three years at Mississippi State, Redmond entered his senior campaign regarded by many in the scouting community as one of the more intriguing corners in the country."
Had Redmond’s season not ended prematurely, he may have found himself in the discussion for first-round consideration. He is extremely quick, mirroring receivers well downfield.
After only 7 games, Will Redmond was viewed as a top CB prior to injury. Expected to be ready for camp. #49ers https://t.co/UFpFjr0vyV

With 2014 first-round selection and current nickel corner Jimmie Ward transitioning back to safety, as Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News reports, it would seem that the Baake selected Redmond to eventually fill Ward’s role.
Given Redmond’s smaller size and outstanding quickness, Redmond would project well at that position.
Baalke, during his post-day two press conference, ensured the media that Redmond would be ready to go at the start of training camp, citing his speed, physicality and fearlessness as his strongest qualities.
Projection: Eventual Starter
Next: Rashard Robinson
