4. DeForest Buckner, Defensive Lineman, Oregon

No one, but a good friend of mine, and “The Godfather,” Gil Brandt, have been talking about this as a possible pick for the Dallas Cowboys at No. 4.

With Dallas CEO Steven Jones in charge of the Cowboys war room, I fully expect the Cowboys to select a defender and not a running back like Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott.

Oregon defensive end DeForest Buckner, here, would do three things. One, he would be arguably the best player available at this spot. Two, he could play defensive end for the Cowboys’ first four games, while Demarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory serve their suspensions. And three, he could slide into defensive tackle, after four games, and be the defender they’ve needed ever since losing Henry Melton after the 2014 season.

I personally don’t know how the Cowboys pass on defensive back Jalen Ramsey, but this would make a ton of sense. Jones, I think, is prudent and could see this as the best long- and short-term option.
