2. Week 2 at Carolina Panthers

There is no better test to see where you are at than facing the best team in your conference from last season. The 49ers have an early start and will need to have a game plan to slow down Panthers QB and reigning MVP Cam Newton. If the 49ers can come up with a pass-rush that resembles the Denver Broncos Super Bowl efforts, then this would go a long way to a successful outcome.

These two teams don’t play each other very often. They have only played twice since 2010, with the 49ers winning both games by a combined 14 points. If it counts for something, the 49ers did beat the Panthers at Bank of America Stadium the last time they met. Several of the current 49ers played in that game. That should help, right?

There is also a chance that former Panthers cornerback Josh Norman could play as a 49er in this game. The 49ers have the second-most room under the cap at this time. They have a need at the position. He has the desire to play in California. The 49ers reside in California. There is a chance!

This game should be an exciting one. With an early season meeting, the 49ers have an opportunity to setup their season and serve notice to their division with a good performance.
