2016 NFL Draft: Revamped 49ers Mock Draft Post-Trades
By Jerod Brown
Round One, Pick Seven–No. 7 Overall
DeForest Buckner, Defensive Lineman–University of Oregon
With the two quarterbacks presumably off the board, the 49ers will turn their focus to selecting a defensive playmaker that can disrupt an offense. There might not be a better player for that than Oregon’s DeForest Buckner.
Buckner is built like a redwood tree. He’s 6’7″ and 290 pounds with 34 3/8 inch arms and a hand size of 11 3/4 inches. Take a moment to process that. That’s nearly a foot from the tip of his pinky to the tip of his thumb.
He uses those long arms and massive hands to abuse offensive lineman. For fun, let’s watch Buckner stay low out of his stance, shuffle to track the ball and then fold a grown man in half with one arm.
Buckner would pair with Armstead to immediately build a defensive line with long-armed strong interior presence.
Buckner is quickly gaining even more popularity and he could be the third player selected overall. In this case, let’s hope the six teams above the 49ers have different needs to address and Buckner lands in Baalke’s lap. The 49ers would race to the podium to call his name.
