Round 4: K Roberto Aguayo, Florida State

San Francisco has two picks in the fourth round but elects to trade its own selection to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for picks in 2025 — a year in which the 49ers expect to be facing some very serious salary cap troubles.

Making this move is critical to the 49ers’ long-term plans.

The team also re-signed aging veteran kicker Phil Dawson during the offseason. But this was a desperation move given how quickly the free-agent pool of talented kickers dried up so quickly.

Florida State kicker Roberto Aguayo is the best kicker in the draft. And given how critical the 49ers offense relies on field goals, it’s only fitting and necessary to see general manager Trent Baalke reinforce this area of need.

Baalke hasn’t shied away from taking specialists early in the draft. And Aguayo is worth the early selection.

The 6’0″, 207-pound Aguayo also doubles as a wide receiver, which gives the offense even more flexibility.
