49ers Trade Back into Round 1

San Francisco already owns the No. 7 pick in the draft. We’ll get to some prospect speculation there in a moment, but let’s assume the Niners consider adding another pick in the first round.

For starters, the 49ers have 12 picks — plenty of ammunition with which general manager Trent Baalke can use to secure a move-up from the Niners’ first pick in Round 2.

Judging by Walter Football’s draft value chart, we can get an idea roughly what each pick in the NFL draft is worth. The higher the pick, the higher the value. It’s simple. So if a team wants to trade up or down, that team would have to match the value of picks to the desired return.

San Francisco owns the No. 6 pick in Round 2, per David Fucillo of Niners Nation. So if the Niners were to exchange their own second- and fourth-round picks, the net value would equal at, or around, pick No. 30. Using a third-round pick instead of a fourth would move the 49ers into the 24th spot.

Having two first-round picks could be a great benefit for San Francisco. Remember, this is similar to what the team did when it landed offensive linemen Anthony Davis and Mike Iupati back in 2010.
