By Peter Panacy
Armed with 12 picks, and the seventh overall, the San Francisco 49ers could go in a number of directions in the upcoming 2016 NFL draft. Niner Noise takes a look at some bold predictions for general manager Trent Baalke and Co.
The weeks and months leading up to the NFL draft are filled with speculation, rumor and educated guesses — some of which is well argued while others, well, are quite out there.
In this 2016 NFL draft preview, Niner Noise will focus on the latter with regard to what the San Francisco 49ers will do during the draft at the tail end of April. Given general manager Trent Baalke’s history, we can almost automatically assume he’ll make some draft-day moves and probably net additional picks this year or, perhaps, next.
Yes, let’s look at some bold predictions for the 49ers. These won’t be your run-of-the-mill assumptions frequently seen in mock drafts and expert breakdowns. No, we’ll try to think a little more out of the box for this slideshow.
And it’s not that hard to fathom the Niners taking the same sort of approach. San Francisco hits the draft with a plethora of positional needs and upgrades, following a 5-11 finish in 2015. The roster is in complete makeover mode and, armed with 12 picks, Baalke will need to cash in on a sizable chunk of talent.
How he goes about this is anyone’s guess. Yet we can look back at his track record and make some detailed and reasonable assumptions.
But let’s step it up a notch and try to figure out if there will be bolder moves from the 49ers.
So, in no particular order, here are some bold predictions for you to wrap your head around.
